Wednesday, November 25, 2020 is International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the first of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. This annual international campaign, started by activists at the inaugural Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991, is used as an “organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.” It begins November 25 and ends on Human Rights Day, December 10. Witness at the Border would like to acknowledge and honor this global effort to affect change for women and girls, which in turn benefits humanity, by using our platform over the next sixteen days to call attention to the risk of violence and abuse faced by immigrant women and girls. Each day we will post articles, information or personal accounts. Our intent is to increase awareness of the dire risks women face on both sides of our border and use our advocacy as a call for change as a new administration begins to take shape.
