Been researching for a Mexican-American Studies lesson on how our country transitioned from open borders in 1840, to the current militarization of our border community.
It is evident there is a continued affinity for inhumane practices such as bathing our immigrant ancestors in gasoline, to the recent incarceration of immigrant children.
Growing up, I thought nothing of crossing over to Cd. Juarez, MX to buy groceries, visit family, play ball in the Mexican leagues, dining out, and hitting the dance floor at the various clubs.
Sadly, we now face a technological gauntlet of drones, robot dogs, facial recognition cameras, and Black Hawk helicopters buzzing our neighborhoods.
Fully aware that living in Texas, where educators are being threatened, curriculum censored, and our governor issues xenophobic executive orders, it is vital to learn of these issues within the scope of our TX standards in order to stave off the transition to authoritarianism.
