All they will call you...
Back at our corner now, banners tied, the wind beginning to pick up. We were at the airport this morning where we faced some objections to our presence as another boxcar in the sky loaded up with shackled humanity, while ICE personnel and others followed us with vehicles to block our view of deportees climbing the steps of another plane bound for Guatemala.
Airport security and Brownsville police did their best to discourage us, making up rules as they went along, the 10 feet from the fence rule to the private property rule, to the no photos rule, to the move onto the street rule.
We ignored them mostly, and they lost interest when the plane shut its door and the empty buses pulled away. Our country has a long history of turning refugees away, but these officers did not seem proud of their heritage.
They hid what they could.
