Next week, on Thursday evening, I will join others in welcoming Martín Espada to the latest in the webinar series presented by Witness at the Border. This is a very special event for me.
Martín gives voice to feelings that rattle around inside me, as I witnessed at Tornillo, as I stood at the cross that marked the bank of the river, the cross that bore the name Valéria. Good poetry bypasses analysis and strategy, and need not obey the linear rules of narrative. It obeys a different set of rules that I barely understand, building scaffolds from the known to the unknown, gives us a glimpse of the unknowable.
He is my poet. He is the poet of witnesses, whose only loyalty is to the search for a truth, to see it, and to tell it.
Join us. Register for the event. Listen to his voice.
