We face another day in a country, in a world, that does not want to admit a very simple truth, that people have the right to migrate in order to live. There is no divine principle that makes borders that deprive some people of that right. In fact, those that look for divine principles can find just the opposite in their sacred texts, should they look for it.
But we need no texts to know the truth of our hearts. Look at the faces of the people you turn away. Look at the stacks of bodies left to suffocate in a tractor trailer near San Antonio. Look at the bloated bodies that from time to time float into view in that river with two names.
Yes, another day for us to mourn and wonder how it is that we live, and that they no longer do. And to wonder how we go on. And then go on.
