I am posting this on behalf of your Witness at the Border team and we are asking those that can to help the volunteer groups in Matamoros. Josh posted a thoughtful update on what we know, and do not know, about what is to come for our brothers and sisters in the camp at Matamoros. None of us know what is yet to come over the next few days with the Rio Grande. And most of all, none of us can come close to imagining what it must be like to make the decision to leave the camp seeking some security, or stay, as many have so far, and face the volatility of the flow of the river and prepare for an escape if necessary.
What we do know for certainty, is that there are heroes in this crisis. The same heroes that have been at the camp, day in and day out, helping our brothers and sisters in Matamoros.
We are asking those that can to support the heroes in Matamoros that are now in full crisis mode.Currently they are funding many life-supporting services, and when the water is tamed, and the residents, that choose to do so, can come back to the camp (as promised by the INM and Mexican Government) these volunteer groups will be in great need of funding to provide food, shelter, infrastructure, and continuing care.
We rarely, if ever, ask for financial support for our group, and we certainly are not asking for that today. We would rather you help those on the ground.
Please help these groups if you can.
