In approving language, members of our government have noted in recent days that the activity of Mexico near its southern border is having an impact on the flow of refugees and asylum seekers reaching its northern border, our southern border. That activity, by the way, is brutality and privation. These are the disincentives added to the mix by Mexico, in an apparent effort to demonstrate to people forced to leave their homes that there are worse things than the homelessness, starvation and violence they are fleeing.
But we are doing our part, too. It is a team effort. Expulsion into cartel-run border towns under a phony health order, the threat of the resumption of Remain in Mexico, the mistreatment of children, and the now-accelerated load’em up and ship’em out documented by Witness at the Border all are starting to discourage migrants, too. Some are finally realizing that there is little reason to hope for a decent life for themselves and their families.
It has been noted in the past that inefficiency, sloppiness, deeply hurt the anti-immigrant programs of the Trump administration. No such problem is apparent now.
Congratulations all round.
