DEATH FLIGHTS – 19 May 2020

WOW – 29 flights today – Incredible risk of COVID seeding and spreading.

4 Deportations - 2 Mexico, 1 El Salvador and 1 Dominican. 3 Deportation connections. 4 deportation returns. AND 18 shuffle flights (including one probable mechanical issue).

Ø So, as we witness deportations of people and exportation of COVID we also witness the use of the pandemic as cover to destroy asylum.

Ø Today the CDC succumbed to the white house hate and extended the CDC order that basically annihilates asylum with not even the possibility to exert their legal right to seek protection in the US. Even worse it was EXTENDED INDEFINITELY with a review every 30 days which basically carries the stench of a presumption that the attempt will be made to use this as a way to close the border to asylum forever. From March 22 to April 30, 20,000 people have been expelled after only a couple of hours to Mexico. 1,000 have been unaccompanied children.

Ø There were no flights to Guatemala today and we have not seen any announcements by the Guatemalan Foreign Ministry on when they might resume. The last announcement was that they were working with the CDC on new processes following 3 deportees retuned last Wednesday with COVID.

- Yesterday we reported the flight held 8 unaccompanied children. The LA Times today reported on one of the children. Very sad. (Click on LA Times)

Ø There were 2 deportation flights to Mexico City. The first we have seen. Deportation flights to Mexico stopped with the CDC Order March 21. And before, they went to Guadalajara under the Mexico Repatriation Agreement. Since that time, and even then, most deportations to Mexico were by land, not air. Since this unusual we are trying to get some information and will be watching for more.

Ø 1,145 detainees have tested positive for COVID, up 72 today and 159 over the last 2 days. 2,194 have been tested, up 22 today. 52% of those tested have been positive for COVID.
