Ø NOTEWORTHY THIS WEEK
- Guyana: First deportation this year and follows a news report in the Guyana press from May that none were needed at that time but would assess needs and COVID risk. In 2019 the US deported 125 people to Guyana.
- Belize: First flight observed this year. In 2019 the US deported 90 people to Belize.
- Jamaica: Had not received a deportation flight for 7 weeks.
- Brazil: Had not received a deportation flight for 4 weeks.
Ø The Detainee population dropped 41 this week, the smallest drop since 11 in Mid-August week, to 20,097. It is possible that next week will fall below 20,000. Almost half of what it was at the end of February. he June weekly average decrease was about 650. May saw decreases of about 1,000 per week. But the last 2 weeks the reductions were only about 100 per week.
Ø Through August, 147,866 asylum seekers have been turned back and expelled under the illegal CDC order (title 42) since mid-March, 42,136 alone in July, up 7,000 from July
Ø Almost 9,000 unaccompanied children have been expelled into danger alone since mid-March/
- It has been reported by CBP that the few that may not qualify to be expelled, some not from Mexico or Northern Triangle Countries, are still being enrolled in MPP.
Ø 6,074 detainees have tested positive for COVID, up this week by 196 or 3%, same as last week. Testing increased last week by 4,420 to 39,443 on a cumulative basis, so the positivity rate was around 15%. I believe that is the most tests given in any week. It leads me to wonder if more countries, other than Guatemala are now requiring tests before deportations. There are 596 detainees in isolation of under monitoring, up slightly by 24 from last week.
Note: ICE Air does not disclose their flights. Flight listing gleaned from public flight information, knowledge of detention center locations, air charter services and historic patterns. In rare cases, there may be a flight we miss, or include in error.
